Local Priorities Anti Social Behaviour Concern - Stevenage Town Centre and 9 Yards Update

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Operation Hotspot patrols have continued with various officers targeting multiple areas in Stevenage which are prone to Anti-Social Behaviour. Seeing an increase of patrols has reduced ASB in these areas, resulting in less crime all around. This could only be achieved by Police officers, PCSO's and Police SGT's who give up their time off by either completing extended shifts or cancelling their rest days in order to boost visibility in these areas. We thank those who are giving up their free time to keep everyone safe.

As a part of Operation Scootherts, another two E-scooters have been seized. Both riders were reported for driving without a licence and driving without insurance. They will both be attending court in relation to these matters.

Thanks to a Herts Connected member, Police were able to locate and seize a car for no tax. A BMW had been reported for driving without any tax and was frequently driving in the area of Stevenage. Due to the report, Police were able to locate the motor whilst it was driving and stop it and upon completing their checks, found that the car was not taxed for six months! As a result, a recovery company was able to take the vehicle off the road and the driver was dealt with for the offence.

PCSO's had attended the Leisure Centre in relation to a bike marking event. Various member of the public had come down, allowing up to mark a whopping twenty bikes. This practise allows Police to put your pedal bikes on the National Bike Register, helps protect bikes with a security kit and reduces your risk of theft by warning thieves that you use the Bike Register. If you would like to see more bike marking events, please let us know so that more can be arranged.

A male has been arrested in Stevenage for X8 thefts and X7 racial and religious public order this week by Police after following reports of theft and public order by various members of the public. The suspect is currently in Police Custody and is being dealt with. Further updates to follow.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.

The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area.

The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour.

These include:

• civil injunctions.
• criminal behaviour orders.
• public spaces protection orders.
• community protection notices.
• dispersal powers.
• closure powers.

The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account.
